Label Decoder

Type or paste an ingredient list to identify supported food terms and place each one in functional and regulatory context.

Decode a label
Layered paper labels and translucent glass examined through a sculptural magnifying lens.

A label is a compact record.

Inside an ingredient list are clues about formulation, regulation and the language used to describe what a product contains. The Label Decoder makes supported terms easier to recognize and gives each one useful context.

The current bank covers common preservatives, sweeteners, flavors, emulsifiers, texturizers, acidity controls, leaveners, nutrients and color additives.
